Sunday Discussion
Patience Pays off
Transition: In last week’s text, Naomi sought the well being of Ruth by giving her guidance on how to approach Boaz, her kinsman redeemer. Ruth willingly listened and decided to take the risk.
Check Point: Would anyone like to share something they worked on from last week’s discussion?
Context: In this week’s text, Boaz assures Ruth that everything would be okay one way or the other. Ruth would be redeemed whether by the closer kinsman or Boaz. When Naomi hears this news, she is confident that Boaz will settle the matter quickly.
Opening Questions:
• Share a story when hope was stirring in your life but was not a reality yet. What were you feeling as you waited?
• What was your biggest fear growing up? How did it affect you?
Scripture/Storying: Ruth 3:11-18
Discipleship Questions:
• What is the Holy Spirit teaching you through this story? How does it impact the way you think and live?
• In verse 10, Boaz told Ruth not to fear. Where in your life does fear tend to seize control the most? What are you currently doing to fight through those fears? How does the gospel message help you to navigate through your fears?
• Boaz recognized Ruth as a woman of character. Who in your life has character that stands out? What impact has their character made in your life? Where do you feel you need the most character growth in your life at this time? How will you work toward this growth?
• Boaz assured Ruth that he would redeem her if the closer kinsman declined to do so. After all she has been through, what is Ruth feeling in this moment? Where in your life right now do you need assurance and why?
• Boaz demonstrated integrity by going through the proper procedure of things legally concerning the closer kinsman. When you think of integrity, what is the first thing that comes to you mind? Where do you see the greatest need for integrity today and why?
• In verse 18, Naomi told Ruth to wait for Boaz to settle the matter. What lessons have you learned during seasons of waiting? What is the most challenging thing to you about waiting and why?
