Week 5 - Simply Jesus

Through the Roof — Week 5

Icebreaker:
When have you gone out of your way—or had someone go out of their way—for something you believed really mattered?

Main Idea
When Jesus heals a paralyzed man, He first forgives his sins, revealing that the harder and greater work is spiritual restoration. Jesus shows that no problem is too great: neither our deepest sin nor our greatest physical need.

Tell it, Rebuild it, then Read the Passage
Scripture: Mark 2:1–12

HEAD — Knowledge (What do we learn?)
Goal: Understand Jesus’ authority, compassion, and identity.
1. What problem brings the man and his friends to Jesus?
“Notice both the physical and relational dynamics.”
2. What do the friends do when they cannot reach Jesus?
“What stands out about their actions?”
3. What does Jesus say first—and why is it surprising?
“What were people expecting Him to say?”
4. How do the teachers of the law respond?
“What does this reveal about their hearts?”
5. How does Jesus prove His authority?
“Pay attention to His question and action.”

HEART — Feeling (What do we feel or value?)
Goal: Examine our beliefs about Jesus’ power, forgiveness, and care.
1. How do you feel about the friends’ boldness and persistence?
“What does this stir in you?”
2. What emotions surface when Jesus forgives sins first?
“What does this say about what matters most to Him?”
3. How do you relate to the teachers’ skepticism?
“Where do doubts or questions show up in your own faith?”
4. What part of this story gives you hope?
“Be specific.”

HANDS — Practical (What will we do?)
Goal: Respond with faith, repentance, and active trust in Jesus.
1. Where do you need to trust that nothing is too hard for Jesus?
“Think spiritually and practically.”
2. Who might God be calling you to carry to Jesus?
“This could be through prayer or action.”
3. What obstacles keep you from bringing people to Jesus?
“Crowds look different today.”
4. What does ‘digging through the roof’ look like in your life this
week?
“Help make this practical.”
5. What is one step you will take this week?
“If it’s vague, help them make it smaller.”
